2015 Projects

While much progress has been made in 2014. Our beneficiciary, AfricanPromise, has accomplished many significant milestones but there is still so much more to do. In 2015 some of our goals include:

Ngambenyi redevelopment

A major project to develop our 7th partner school, funded in partnership with Hazel’s Footprints Trust. This project will include the construction of new facilities and the completion/renovation of existing buildings. The final school will consist of 8 classrooms, a dedicated pre-school, a multi-purpose hall and kitchen, staffroom and offices and a library/computer room. It will also include new/improved solutions for water and electricity supply, and hygiene and sanitation.

Cost: up to $150,000

Makwasinyi classrooms (Phase III)

This project will include the reconstruction of a block of classrooms at the school. An existing block of five classrooms will be demolished, one classroom at a time, and ultimately replaced by a block of four larger classrooms. This represents the final phase of work to improve classroom environments at the school - Phase I included the construction of a block of three entirely new classrooms and Phase II (on-going) involves replacing a block containing the old staffroom/offices and three classrooms with a block of four classrooms. Upon completion of Phase III, Makwasinyi will have a total of 11 identical classrooms.

Cost: approx. $45,000

Kisimenyi development (Phase II)

Following on from the two-year first phase of our project (completed in Sep 2013) to construct a new school at Kisimenyi, we will return to the school in 2015/16 to undertake a planned second phase of work. This will include the construction of four additional primary classrooms, a single classroom extension to the nursery school, the creation of staff housing and improvements to utility supplies (water and electricity).

Cost: approx. $85,000

Feeding programme

We will continue to deliver our feeding programme at least at current levels. This currently involves providing a daily hot lunch to 1,200 of the 2,400 children across our partner schools, including all 400 or so nursery children. The programme supports all children at the three smallest schools (by enrolment) and nursery children at the three largest schools. To extend the programme to all pupils at just one of these three schools would cost an additional $11,000 per annum, on top of the $36,000 cost of the programme at current levels. To extend the programme to support all pupils would cost a total of around $65,000 per annum.

Cost (2015): approx. $35,000

Furniture

This project will see modern furniture supplied to the last remaining classrooms currently using old-style timber workstations.

Cost: approx. $30,000
